Halloween in Bend, Oregon: Spooky Fun for Kids, Adults, Athletes

There’s something about Halloween…kids love the opportunity to “be someone (something?) else” for a day and, let’s face it, we adults do too. Picking out the costume, creating it, being a little bit spooked and getting lots of fun-size candy equals many things to love about this holiday. In Bend, Oregon, the natives get creative: there are so many ways to celebrate tomorrow!

  • NorthWest Crossing is a favorite haunt for classic trick-or-treating fun. Our welcoming front porches, wide sidewalks and friendly neighbors make for the perfect place to gather up some loot. We’re pretty sure our residents are busy stocking up on goods to meet the needs of all their ghoulish visitors Saturday night! (Please be careful when driving through the community tomorrow as there will likely be many little ghosts running about.)
  • To get in on some action a little earlier in the day, head on down to the Old Mill District. They are hosting their annual Halloween Party, and all the shops will have treats for the kiddies. They will also host hay rides and Halloween arts and crafts.
  • If you’re interested in getting a little exercise in before the candy coma, check out the Monster Dash at Highland Elementary. There will be a 5K, 10K and Little Monster’s Mile and proceeds benefit Younity – an organization that works to prevent bullying. Cyclists be sure to check out the Deschutes Brewery Halloween Thudercross cyclocross race on the main brewery grounds. The costumes alone are worth the trip.
  • Because Halloween lands on a Saturday this year, there’s a huge selection of scary nighttime activities for brave adults. From the spectacular Deschutes Brewery Warehouse Party (Mad Max theme this year) to live music at McMenamins Halloween Night celebration and from the classic fun of a live performance of the Rocky Horror  Show to a dance party downtown at the Astro Lounge.

So whether you’re hanging out with your little goblins and monsters, or you are able to take an evening on the town, there’s plenty to keep you breathless this Halloween in Bend, Oregon. Happy Halloween everyone!
