Have you noticed some new construction activity northwest of Summit High School? There’s great anticipation for the new neighborhood that just broke ground west of NorthWest Crossing, Discovery West. Brought to you by the same team that developed the award-winning NorthWest Crossing neighborhood, Discovery West will feature a variety of housing types ranging from single-family homes and townhomes, to cottages and apartments. One key focus of the neighborhood is to provide “missing middle housing” that is in short supply in Bend, that is, housing types in between a traditional single-family home and an apartment unit.
Discovery Park is a key amenity that will link the new neighborhood to NorthWest Crossing, adding another nearly 40 acres of park and open space, providing trail connections to Tree Farm and Shevlin Park beyond. Construction of a new bridge at the main entry to the neighborhood will take place over the winter and, upon completion, will extend Skyline Ranch Road through Discovery West. The bridge will also accommodate a pedestrian underpass so that users of Discovery Park won’t have to cross a busy street to enjoy the extended park trail system at that intersection.
The neighborhood will be developed over the next 10-15 years and will follow a transect concept in which density decreases as you head west toward The Tree Farm. This concept complements the existing landscape, and provides some protection from wildfire and accommodates wildlife.
The development team anticipates the first homes will be under construction and listed for sale in summer 2020.
We look forward to welcoming new neighbors to the area which will have a positive impact on NorthWest Crossing businesses and amenities. To learn more about Discovery West, visit the website and join the list to stay up-to-date on the progress.
