This Saturday is the close of the NorthWest Crossing Farmers Market. This beloved 13-week event is going out with a bang, with lots of fun for everyone!
On the Market Stage, we welcome special guests, Chayag. Since the 1990’s, Chayag has been dedicated to sharing and preserving the ancestral music and culture of the indigenous peoples of the Andes. Founded in Quito, Ecuador, the group has traveled throughout the world participating in festivals celebrating multiculturalism. Using a diverse mix of Andean instruments and rhythms, Chayag will be a fun musical celebration of the season.
We’re also excited to celebrate the tastes of fall. Whole Foods will be at the Market this weekend roasting fresh Hatch Chilies right at the market. And in case you need a little culinary inspiration for using those beautiful chilies, the final Taste of the Season Market Recipe, presented by The Garner Group is Pork Hatch Chili Verde with Posole. The perfect fall comfort food!
We have plenty for the little ones too. Visit the Information Booth and pick up a Market Scavenger Hunt Questionnaire—a fun way to learn about the market and where food comes from. Then, return your completed form to earn a prize for yourself, as well as a seedling for the Westside Village Magnet School’s community garden, donated by Red Tail Farms.
And, it’s BYOB (that would be Bring Your Own Bucket) to the market day. If you want some free compost for your garden beds, visit the garbage/recycling station at the market. Don’t worry, we’ll have some bags on hand, if you forget that bucket at home. There will also be a fun kids activity where kids can decorate their own container to plant fall flowers in.
We hope to see you at the last and best market of the entire season. Our 2013 season will start in late June next year. A big thank you to all the wonderful farmers and vendors who made this year’s event such a huge success! And to our guests and customers who support fresh, local, hand-made products. It’s what community is all about!
